What I find ironic is that it actually looks like a lot of modern 'Gursikhs' would actually be horrified by a lot of their ancestors and what they were like, if they had the chance to travel back in time and meet them.
On the other hand simplifying our ancestor's identity as some sort of savage, freebooting, all consuming pendus is equally ridiculous. We have to see them in their geo-political and socio-cultural context and understand the norms of using freely available natural psychotropic plants of the region (I've seen how easily weed grows in Panjab!). Otherwise it will probably lead to a situation where every second Jut male fudhu would be using the past as an excuse to get pi55ed and high, and over indulge in meat (the old - khaan bukray, peen sharabaan - mentality), not to mention steal sh1t off one another.
