Thing about India is that, you can't say it is entirely in the US camp. It's relationship with Russia is very close, and has been right after 1947. The closeness between India and the US has only started due to economic reasons. India is also very close to Iran since the fall of the Shah in 1979 and we all know the US hates Iran. India is close to both the Arabs and Israelis simultaneously.
On the other hand, India and China are rivals and enemies. This is the reason India doesn't join the Shanghai Cooperation organization which Russia and China created as a rival to NATO and western economic power. Russia wants India to join but it would be a bit of an awkward situation due to China laying claim on Indian territory.
So India is more of an non aligned nation. As MisterrSingh has rightly said, Pakistan is the only real ally of the US in the region but the way they hid OBL for all those years and covertly support the Taliban, it seems the ISI is as chalaak as the CIA in playing a double game with allies.
