So a name since the sat yug, Ishar ie ishwara, which has always defined the Shiva component of Akal Purakh, for millennia it seems since older Ved were written; and now all of a sudden in just 500 years time after millennia of 3 Yugs you are going to excise the connection if Shiva to Akal Purakh and claim by yourselves that now Shiva has no connection to Akal at all and it is Akal only??
From an unbiased and impartial intellectual stand point that just seems wrong. Whether it is bani that is doing this or the gurus or the environment and opinion created by certain parchariks with agendas of their own, you can not take a word that has existed for millennia before has had a certain definition for that time period and then suddenly change it to suit your own needs or personal viewpoints.
Not seeing this as a "sikh" or "Hindu" but from an impartial and complete intellectual neutrality, looking at the word Isher, or ishwar, or ishwara, in whatever form, Shiva is associated with it's definition as well as Akal Purakh. So one can deduce that Shiva and Akal are projections of each other, due to the word or shabd defining in all it's definitons both Shiva and Akal Purakh.
So not only does a single tuk in guru granth sahib have "infinite meanings" as stated by parchariks, but even a single shabd or word. This is where the multiple meanings of single lines comes in to play.
Moreover what you are doing by suddenly changing the exact and full meanings of words like these is intellectual dishonesty and even plaigarism. Give us the whole meaning of the word Ishar, not just your version, I personally would want to know the complete and full meaning of words I use and read so I can have it's complete version and knowledge. And I know it's personal, but especially if I were to name my own child such a name, it is only fair that I know the words full meaning and that my child also understands the full context of his or her own name.
It's plaigarism because you are taking a word that has existed for millennia with it's various interpretations for millenia and then you take this shabd and alter it yourself excising what you like and discarding what you do not, treating it as though you were the original founder and creator of this word, when you clearly are not.
From an unbiased and impartial intellectual standpoint, this does not make sense and is disrespectful to Gyan as well as dishonest in it's nature.

Kundalini Sikhi name issue
Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh
Hi all, I have a question about my issue of my spiritual name and I don't have a group of Gursikhs to talk about this so posting it here in hope of a response of some kind.
First I will explain a bit about my background...as there maybe some who are a bit unsure when I mention Kundalini yoga and Sikhi together...
Ok so overall I've done yoga since a teenager, though two years ago I started Kundalini yoga meditation with mantras e.g. Sat Nam and my life started getting better. I stopped drinking alcohol and became vege again like I did in my teens. It was at a Kundalini yoga festival I happened to drive a Sikh man (who is now a dear friend) there and while there he suggested I go to a talk on Who is Guru Nanak by Basics of Sikhi. So I did as I was listening to and singing along to music with his name in. The talk was interesting as were the values posted around the school we were in. Anyway I didn't think much about it though a few months later I watched more Basics videos and I felt drawn to go along to Simran just before my 27th birthday at my local Gurdwara. I literally just turned up at the door and thankfully someone showed me around as everything was new to me (and I still go).
So fast forward a little more...a few months go by and I sign up for my yoga teacher training then a little further into that I get a spiritual name, fully it's Ajeet Amrita Kaur, though people just call me Ajeet. It's apparently based on numerology but they don't go into specifics. It was in my training I first learnt Japji Sahib, first in English then Gurmukhi.
Anyway...so this Summer I went to Khalsa camp, after a magical day of meeting another Kaur while volunteering and seeing a flyer on the wall in the Gurdwara on a day I don't usually go. I just booked it and drove all the way to Wales. Totally worth it and I experienced Amrit Vela in a wonderful way, I'm learning Jaap Sahib now gradually, it's beautiful.
It was there I learnt more about the name Hukamnama and it sounded wonderful! Though I have Ajeet and I like it, it suits me. Victory over obstacles. I would even consider changing to it permanently (from Alice) and it seems strange to ask for another name.
Though I have doubts that I may be looked down upon for my names background. I am also confused to how it works with Kaur legally, is it a middle name or surname? Someone I know from a Kundalini background who has taken Amrit will legally change hers when she's married, though that's not me, I'd do it as I want to.
So if anyone has any response or questions please comment.
Thank you for your time
Ajeet 🙂

How Important is Punjabi Language for Sikhs?
Well, if you can learn Urdu, you should be able to easily learn Gurmukhi.
The reason is that Urdu is a square peg fitted into a round hole. I.e., the Urdu (Arabic) alphabet was created for Arabic, not Punjabi.
By contrast, Gurmukhi was specially created for Punjabi, and it includes vowel marks, too. For the most part (once you learn some simple rules), you speak words as they are written.

Kundalini Sikhi name issue
bhen ji
I think you should actually approach Guru ji to get the akkar/letter of your name and select a name according to gurmat NOT numerology because that has a big Zero to do with Guru ji's path. These convoluted 'yogic' namings often seem clumsy and overworked sikh names are normally simpler just one apart from Singh/Kaur

Akhand Kirtani Jatha (AKJ)
https://akj.org/
AKJ differs from mainstream Sikhism in their interpretation of one of The Five Ks of Sikhism: instead of accepting the kes or "uncut hair", they interpret the command as referring to keski, a small turban, which they maintain must be worn by Sikhs of either sex. Kes is given a higher requirement.
They are against any forms of meat, including Jhatka.
This is a topic on gurmatbibek.com which is very much an AKJ forum. http://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,1963
As mentioned in the name of the Jatha, they elaborate more on their Kirtan. Here are a few examples of their kirtan:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B0Y4Aav_KE

(I am going to keep AKJ short because their maryada and facts are really not hard to find)

https://vidhia.com/Bhai Randheer Singh Ji/
Please use these links they tell you a lot of what Bhai Randhir Singh said.
All other Jathabandi's
Other jathabandi's are basically just a group of sikhs. For example, dhadi jatha. They don't have a whole new jatha with a maryada do they? Jatha simply means a group/parade.
And a jatha inside a jatha, for example a kirtani group that are akhand kirtani's, they are a smaller jatha that don't believe in anything different, just a little group.
Joining a Puratan Samprada / Jatha
I am no expert on these type of stuff but here are my 20 cents:
To join a Samprada of any sort, you need to follow their rehit top to bottom. You are still a Sikh just different beliefs.
Now to actually be in the Jatha fully, you need to take amrit from that specified Jatha.
Let's say you wanted to become a Nihang, you will need to ask the current Jathedar (they have lots of headquarters) and ask him questions.
Same with taksali most likely. Otherwise you can just take amrit from that Jatha and follow what they say. Remember one thing though, you are to be following your Guru, don't be a sheep and follow the Jatha just for the sake of it.
Now AKJ is fairly easy too, just follow the maryada and the amrit from them.

negativity
Hi
from personal experience, I find a lot of negativity amongst people. (in fact, you can see a lot from just scanning this forum).
an important part of religious outlook, of an outlook of life, is joy. we should reject all negativity from our minds, which is ungodly.
Sikhs of old have encouraged an ethos of "Chardi Kala"- which i translate as 'the power of optimism/rising up", to *always* be in high spirits, even when faced with change, poverty, torture etc
negative thoughts and emotions are like illness- they may make a person feel dull, down, weak. optimism does the opposite.
another thing- i find that it is easy to be optimistic if i have a attitude of humility, whereas pride cause feelings of negativity.

Did Winston Churchill & British Establishment deliberately want partition and deadly violence in punjab
As per the India it was partition of supposed to go with Pakistan.About law of agreement you're right but nobody gave a damn about it.It was also against the democratic principles. India did not accept Junagarh's accession to Pakistan even though ruler of that state had signed instrument of accession to Pakistan but here India insisted on princple of democratic rights and they maintained that Muslim ruler had no right to accede to Pakistan only people of that state will decide their future.
Which right you're talking about ? You're being emotional. Everyone knew that muslim majority areas would go with Pakistan and non muslim areas would go to India. Any neutral person can look at the demographics and tell India got favorable deal in both Bengal and Punjab.
Here see a blog by Indian https://southasiablog.wordpress.com/2014/01/03/religious-map-of-punjab-before-partition/
A Pakistani perspective http://pakgeotagging.blogspot.com/2014/10/partition-of-punjab-in-1947.html
Partition of Punjab was the best deal you could have got. This can be supported by the fact that NOT A SINGLE hindu/sikh majority tehsil was included in Pakistan. There is no point in arguing about Punjab partition because both the countries have accepted it and Punjab is not a disputed land.

Ravi Singh needs a Nobel Prize
I've had the same opinion for many years. I remember having a debate with Ravi Singh on Sikhnet over 16 years when Khalsa Aid was collecting money for the Gujarat earthquake. I asked him why he wasn't doing anything for Punjab and those Sikh farmers committing suicide (yes, the issue does go far that back) there who needed help. His view was that Khalsa Aid needed to gain a 'reputation' by helping in other causes first and then start projects for Punjab. I thought that was a BS excuse then and seeing how they have only done some minor work in Punjab while the vast majority of funds goes towards non-Sikhs shows that was just an excuse. His other argument was that they were only involved in humanitarian and disaster relief so they could not help the Sikh farmers!
It's an unfortunate fact but Sikh organisations such as Khalsa Aid and United Sikhs are mainly only interested in rushing to help non-Sikhs while pushing the needy Sikhs to the side. Only organisation that I see which is involved in Sikh causes is Sikh Relief. They should be the ones that we should be giving donations to and not Khalsa Aid.
